About the program

Cambridge Bicycle Safety’s Ride Secure program helps more people take practical steps to protect their bikes.

The Bike Tracking Starter Kit includes two Find My compatible trackers and simple bike-mounted accessories that make it easier to add tracking to your bike. The goal is not to create a perfect anti-theft system. The goal is to help riders take a useful first step now.

Tracking devices do not prevent theft or guarantee recovery, but they can provide helpful location information if a bike is stolen or moved.

Why use a tracker kit?

Bike theft can happen quickly, and many stolen bikes are difficult to recover without identifying information or location data.

Adding trackers can help by:

– Giving you another way to check where your bike may be
– Making it more likely that at least one tracker remains with the bike
– Supporting a police report with location information, photos, and your bike’s serial number
– Encouraging riders to document and register their bikes before anything happens

The kit includes two trackers because using more than one can improve the chance that a tracker stays with the bike long enough to be useful.

What is included

Each $20 starter kit includes:

– 2 Find My compatible tracking devices
– 1 bike bell that can hold a tracker
– 1 water bottle mount that can hold a tracker
– Security/Torx screws for the water bottle mount

Monthly pickup events

We plan to host at least one Ride Secure pickup event each month where purchased kits will be available. Upcoming pickup dates and locations will be posted here.

Important safety note

If your bike is stolen, do not try to recover it by confronting someone yourself. Save any available location information, take screenshots, file a police report, and work with law enforcement. Tracking devices are only one tool. They work best when paired with clear bike photos, your serial number, and registration through Bike Index or another bike registration service.
